On Saturday, July 1st, CFGB hosted the second annual Row Raiser to benefit and raise awareness for the Special Olympics. The concept is simple: teams of 10 compete together by completing a 26.2 mile row to benefit and raise awareness for the Special Olympics. Last year $750 was donated to the Escambia/Santa Rosa County Special Olympics on behalf of CFGB and Average Joe's CrossFit.
We are excited that in 2017, $1,000 was donated Escambia/Santa Rosa County Special Olympics on behalf of CrossFit Gulf Breeze, Average Joe's CrossFit and CrossFit Above the Bar! Thank you Average Joe's and CrossFit ATB for your participation!
Congratulations to Average Joes's CrossFit, who completed the marathon row in 2:38:11 to take home the trophy for the second year in a row!

We look forward to 2018 being an even larger event and raising even more money for the Escambia/Santa Rosa County Special Olympics Chapters.

A fellow CrossFitter and cousin of one of our members suddenly lost consciousness and had to be placed in a medically induced coma in early February. He has since woken up, but has a long road of recovery ahead of him. On February 18th at 8:00 am CFGB had a fundraiser WOD for medical expenses for Patrick and his family. The WOD that day was the same one done at Patrick's home box in Orlando (details below). Click here to see pictures from the fundraiser.
Patrick's story can be found here and a GoFundMe page has been set up here.
WOD - Metcon (AMRAP – Rounds and Reps) 20:00 AMRAP
- 200m Run
- 4x Power Snatch (135/95)
- 8x Toes to Bar
- 12x Burpees
- 16x Wallballs (20/14)
The 2016 Masters Tour had approximately 3,500 competitors who joined the battle this year! This event brings you an opportunity for local competition, but adds national results, giving you a large competition feel when comparing your results. We are proud of all of our athletes who competed this year!
The Masters Tour Garage Games is for athletes 30 and older and has several divisions according to age brackets.
On July 9th, CrossFit Gulf Breeze had the honor of participating in the 2016 Row Raiser. The Row Raiser is an event where teams of 10 compete together by completing a 26.2 mile row to benefit and raise awareness for the Special Olympics.
The first Row Raiser was held in Quincy, IL in 2015 at QTown CrossFit. Organized by CrossFit athlete Sam Dancer, the first event raised $10,000 for Special Olympics Illinois. In 2016, the Row Raiser had 722 participants who helped raise more than $41,000 for the Special Olympics!
CFGB is excited to commit to participate annually as a host location. Host locations pay a fee to QTown CrossFit for the first team registered, and any registrations fees collected from additional teams are donated directly to your local chapter for the Special Olympics. A big thanks to Independent Advocare Distributor Burt Khan for paying half of the fees to get the first team registered for the inaugural year's event!
CFGB hosted four teams and raised $750 to donate to the Escambia/Santa Rosa Special Olympics chapters! Burt Khan presented the check on behalf of CrossFit Gulf Breeze and Average Joe's CrossFit at the Special Olympics Area 1 Surfing Competition held at Navarre Beach on August 2nd.
Congratulations to team "Joes" from Average Joes's CrossFit, who completed the marathon row in 2:42:17 to take home the trophy!

On Saturday, June 12th a fundraiser was held for Adam Enzian. Adam Enzian (or "Sasquatch" to his friends), was in a horrific accident on February 21st. He was helping a friend work on a car when it shifted and fell on top of him. Adam had to undergo two surgeries that night in the ER. The doctor said that night that it would be a miracle for him to make it through both surgeries. Adam has defied the odds and made it through the surgeries and is still fighting each day to get better. He had multiple broken bones in his face and a portion of his skull removed, and has many more surgeries ahead.
CFGB would like to thank everyone who was a part of the fundraiser for Adam Enzian. We were able to raise over $2,000 to donate to Adam and his family at this event.
This year CFGB had over 80 participants for our Memorial Day Murph! We were so pleased to see a mix of all ages, first timers, athletes who do Murph every year, and a few kids even joined in for the fun! Heats for Murph ran from 7:00 - 9:00 and were followed by a Memorial Day cookout (thank you to Doug Senn for being the Grill Master!).
For anyone reading who may not be familiar with the Murph Challenge, it is the official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. LT. Michael P. Murphy was killed in battle in 2005 in Afghanistan.
A huge thank you to Steven and Annie Gray for capturing these memories for us. What a great day to honor a man who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
CFGB Bootcamp is on M, W & F at 4:00 and is designed for the beginner and intermediate athletes. This class is a fast paced, high intensity class that doesn't incorporate the use of barbells and skilled gymnastic movements that a typical CrossFit class would. If you are intimated by CrossFit movements but like to work hard, this is the class for you!
This class was previously referred to as Metcon but the name was changed to alleviate any confusion. Drop-in rates are $10 a class and the first class is free!
We also have a beginner's CrossFit class taught on M, W & F at 8:15 am. The beginner classes have a slower pace, allowing the individual to focus on fundamentals and proper form. The goal is to establish a base and general knowledge of the movements. This class can be modified or advanced for anyone's needs. There are no prerequisites required for this class and drop-ins are welcome!

The 2016 CrossFit Open had both repeat and first time participants who joined us for our "Friday Night Lights" tradition. Both our Scaled and RX athletes worked hard to push themselves out of their comfort zones. We saw a first time muscle up, shared the mental struggle of that row during 16.4 (UGH), and rejoiced together when 16.5 was over. We are also very proud to say that our very own Leo Post, Sr. qualified for the Masters Regionals this year! Awesome work by everyone who participated. Click here for pictures from this event.
P.S. We have apologized profusely to the newcomers for 16.5.
